Louise Lague, nicknamed Louisa, comes from a family of accessory queens. Her grandmothers both were milliners who decorated those big outrageous hats in the 1890s. She had her ears pierced secretly, in a boarding school kitchen, at 13 and began a humongous earring collection. Growing tall and not averse to drama, she had trouble finding jewelry that was big enough to make a statement, and so began making her own in 1992.
A longtime journalist, she has served as fashion editor of the Washington Daily News and US magazines. She later worked as a columnist at InStyle, editor of Style Watch at People magazine, and worked on the first and many subsequent versions of the “Best and Worst Dressed” issue, as well as the “50 Most Beautiful People” special issue.
A hobby has turned into a passion and Louisa now makes custom designs for people based on a client’s wardrobe needs, favorite colors, and in proportion to height and body. Soon a ready to wear line will be available on this site.
An enthusiastic traveler, she buys beads everywhere she goes, most recently France, Italy, Mexico, Spain, Greece, and anywhere along the road with a “BEADS” sign.
